During the Spring Festival, to ensure reliable power supply to hubei’s main grid, State Grid Hubei Maintenance Company invited a “smart power doctor” — a laser photoacoustic spectrum online gas in oil monitoring device — to the main transformer at the 500kV Xinglong substation in Qianjiang, Hubei province. This is the first time the new device has been used on a 500KV transformer in Hubei Province.
500 kv Xinglong Substation is the “heart” of load in central Hubei. Before the festival, State grid Hubei maintenance company to overcome the difficulties of low temperature, seize the rain gap construction, on February 5 to complete the monitoring device installation.
It is reported that the transformer is filled with insulating oil. During operation, when thermal fault, discharge fault or component aging occurs inside the transformer, the insulation oil will crack and produce hydrogen, methane, carbon dioxide and other fault gases. The content of fault gases is closely related to the type and severity of the fault. Through on-line monitoring of the content of the fault gas, the hidden trouble inside the transformer can be found as early as possible.
It is understood that in the past, online monitoring mostly used oil chromatography technology, infrared light source photoacoustic spectrum gas detection technology, but these monitoring devices have complex structure, insufficient accuracy and measurement of cross interference between gases and other defects. But laser photoacoustic spectrum online monitoring overcomes these defects, and has high reliability, and does not need to carry out daily maintenance.
“Traditional online monitoring devices are unstable, and the accuracy of the data is always not very reassuring. We must do another oil analysis to be sure. Now we have tested this new device, and it is very stable. Wu Xiaorui, head of the oil chemical specialty in the electric test class of the substation overhaul center of the company, said that the “intelligent power doctor” has improved the stability of the transformer and greatly reduced the workload of the monitoring personnel.
